5 Books to Watch for in November The season of Big Fall  Books is in full swing, and I had a heck of a time narrowing down this months highlights. Heres an eclectic mix that will, I hope, remind you of some  favorite writers with new projects and introduce you to new writers that will become  favorites. The Isle of Youth: Stories by Laura van den Berg (November 5, FSG)This ones at the top  because it is among my most-anticipated  books of the year, and Van den Berg is one of my  favorite short story writers. Her earlier collection What the World Will Look Like When All the Water Leaves Us is simply stunning, and her chapbook There Will Be No More Good Nights Without Good Nights is a reminder of how powerful even the shortest stories can be. She can do in three pages what some writers spend entire novels trying (not always successfully) to do. Van den Berg creates worlds that are haunting and lovely and just a bit strange. She captures  characters in intimate, vulnerable moments and treats them with great sympathy and insight, and this remarkable collection is no exception. Highly recommended. Anything That Moves: Renegade Chefs, Fearless Eaters, and the Making of a New  American Food Culture by Dana Goodyear (November 4, Riverhead)Being a food lover hasnt always meant being willing to try anything, so how did we get here? No Good Duke Goes Unpunished: The Third Rule of Scoundrels by Sarah MacLean (November 26, Avon)This series! It is so much fun! Sarah MacLeans historical romances are rompy and delightful, filled with smart, self-possessed women, roguish men who Know Some Things, and love scenes that are as hot as they are well-written. The male leads in the Rule of Scoundrels series are co-owners of a gaming hell (read: gambling hall), and they have more than enough experience to show their innocent-but-ready-for-ruin ladies the finer points of the art of seduction. You can count on scandals and secret trysts a-plenty, and there might even be some legit bodice ripping. A great read for seasoned romance fans and newcomers alike. I started with Sarah MacLean, and I was hooked. This is the Story of a Happy Marriage by Ann Patchett (November 5, Harper)Before Ann Patchett was a bestselling novelist and the patron saint of indie  bookstores, she wrote essays. Lots of them, for all kinds of publications. And then she found that she enjoyed writing nonfiction so much that she  kept writing even when she no longer had to. This collection brings together previously published pieces from throughout her career that speak to each other and highlight the recurring themes of Patchetts life as a writer. She writes about friendship, marriage (the one that failed, and the one that didnt), her beloved dog, caring for her grandmother, her unexpected turn as the owner of a bookstore,    and what happened when parents of Clemson University students tried have her and her book banned from campus. This collection is lovely and well-written, if a bit on the safe side for my taste. It will make an excellent gift or companion for a cozy weekend. Havisham: A Novel by Ronald Frame (November 5, Picador)A prequel to Great Expectations, all about how the most interesting character in the classic novel (Miss Havisham, natch) came to be that way. This is Miss Havisham falling in love, not Miss Havisham wandering her house in her decades-old wedding gown surrounded by moldy cake and cobwebs. Shifted-perspective takes on classics seem to be having a moment, and for this reader, who has always though Wide Sargasso Sea was infinitely more compelling than Jane Eyre, there couldnt be better news. Honorable Mention: This is Between Us by Kevin Sampsell (November 12, Tin House  Books)If this debut novel has half the heart of Sampsells wonderful memoir A Common Pornography, we are all in for a treat. Summary of the Novel Catcher in the Rye Catcher In The Rye Summary The story begins with a seventeen year-old Holden Caulfield’s description of his encounters with the students and the faculty of Pencey Prep, Agerstown in Pennsylvania. Holden criticizes them of being phony or superficial. Because of his poor performance academically, Holden is expelled from the school. He then packs and leaves the school after a physical clash with the roommate in the middle of the night. Holden boards a train to New York; however, he doesn’t want to return to the family and therefore checks into a hotel. In the Hotel, he dances with three tourist girls in the evening and gets into an awkward encounter with Sunny, a young prostitute who seems to be of his age. As the prostitute enters the room, Holden’s attitude changes and he becomes very uncomfortable with his situation. The prostitute becomes annoyed and leaves when Holden tells her that they need to talk, however, he pays for her time. Later, the prostitute and her pimp, Maurice, return to H olden’s room and demand for more pay than what was initially agreed on. Sunny goes ahead and takes five dollars from the wallet of Holden, and not to be enough, Holden is punched in the stomach by Maurice. Holden invites Sally Hayes, his old girlfriend, to see a musical. Sally agrees very excitedly and both of them meet for the play. They go skating after the play, and Holden hastily invites her to run away with him. However, Sally declines. Holdens mood is then deflated by Sally’s response. She walks away as Holden pleads with her to accept the apology; however, he gives up and retreats. Holden stays in the city for three days, characterized by loneliness and drunkenness. He finds himself in a museum at one point and there, he compares his life to the statues of Eskimos that were on display, which had not been changing for as long as he could remember. He eventually sneaks into the apartment of his parents when the parents are away. His sister, Phoebe, is the only person he can communicate with. Phoebe views him as a hero as she is unaware that Holden views her in a virtually identical manner. Holden shares his fantasy: he looks at himself as a guardian of children playing in t he rye field on a cliff’s edge, and his job as a guardian is to catch the children shall they wander near the brink. He misinterprets â€Å"catcher in the rye† to mean â€Å"saving children from losing their innocence.† In the middle of the night, Holden leaves the parent’s apartment and visits Mr. Antolini, a former English teacher. He is advised on life and offered a place to sleep. The advice from Mr. Antolini is at odds with his intentions of becoming catcher in the rye. When he wakes up in the night and finds Mr. Antolini patting his head in a flitty way, he is very much upset. He then leaves and spends the last afternoon roving the city, and questioning his interpretation of the actions of Mr. Antolini. Holden decides to head out west and his little sister, Phoebe decides to go with him. However, he refuses to have the company of the sister. The sister is upset and Holden cancels his plan. He then takes her to Central Park Zoo. As Phoebe rides the carousel, he realizes his mistake as he comes to the reality that he is not the â€Å"Catcher in the Rye and he needs help. The story concludes without much mention of the present day. However, Holden alludes to being in a mental hospital after getting sick and states that in September, he shall be attending another school.

Water Sports Activity H20 on 1st May 2010 Yippee!! Hurray! My Joy knew no bounds when my mother announced that CMC had arranged a water sports activity which comprised of Jet Ski, speed boat, motor boat and bay cruise. But alas, the date was the day of my results. After a lot of coaxing and cajoling, I persuaded my mother and we decided to pick up my result early and directly reach the venue. We did the same and reached H20 Water Sports. As we were reaching the venue we could see the speed at which the Jet Ski was going and butterflies started fluttering in the pits of my stomach. When we reached inside the venue, we were assured looking at the safety features provided. We were provided life Jackets and what more an expert skier was to accompany on every Jet Ski ride. I chose two of the most enthralling sports Jet Ski and speed boat. The Jet Ski is a scooter shaped streamlined automobile that zips through water (l had only seen it in movies). As I went close to the Jetty, I saw a man getting down from the ski, brimming with Joy. I too felt ecstatic to board the Jet Ski and luckily my chance came next. The expert skier took me on the ride and we zoomed through the water, leaving me breathless with excitement. In fact, I even took my mothers chance so that I could go for one more round. The speed boat was an open topped small boat with high speed motor attached at its end. For balancing minimum four people were required (except the driver). My ather, mother, an uncle and I sat on the boat, with me sitting on the dashboard. The slightly bumpy, exciting and fast ride left me craving for more. After the wonderful boating experience Philomena Aunty took us to the famous Girgaum Chowpatty where scrumptious snacks lay in store for us. We were given a choice between all different kinds of chaats and we chitchatted over bottles of cold drinks and mineral water. Then we bade each other adieu. This was one of the most memorable trips whose every moment will be etched in my memory for a long time.
